Headed by President, Ann Sarnoff, our North America division is responsible for growing the BBC brand, driving future business opportunities and developing new revenue streams across the United States and Canada. The team operates four core businesses in the region – linear and digital content sales and co-productions, BBC.com, consumer products, and studios.
Our linear and digital content sales and co-productions teams commercialise our deep and rich programme catalogue through linear and digital partnerships with a diverse range of channels, including the recent multiplatform deal with Bell Media for exclusive Canadian rights to global hit Doctor Who on Space and streaming service CraveTV™.
Our two LA-based studios - BBC Worldwide Productions, responsible for the ratings juggernaut Dancing with the Stars for ABC, about to begin its 23rd season and consistently a top 10 show for the last 10 years, and Adjacent Productions, producers of Life Below Zero for National Geographic Channel - create highly successful scripted and non-scripted formats and original shows for linear and digital partners.
The editorial teams for BBC.com take the lead on feature sections Travel, Autos and Capital – the latter recently recognized as a Webby Award “honoree” for the piece “Leading without Limbs.”
We seek to enhance and extend fan enjoyment of an array of shows by developing a range of consumer products such as apparel, toys, Blu-ray and DVDs. We also create cinema events for our global brands with nearly one million tickets sold to cinema events since Doctor Who’s 50th Anniversary event, and acquire films for distribution, such as director John Boorman’s final film Queen and Country as well as the documentary We Come As Friends, which was shortlisted for a 2016 Academy Award®.
Our North America offices manage three branded linear channels partnerships – AMC Networks for BBC AMERICA in the U.S., Shaw Media for BBC Canada, and Knowledge Network for BBC Kids, both in Canada.
Our North America business has offices in New York, Los Angeles and Toronto.
