Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper are among those talking exclusively about the brand-new TV series of Doctor Who. Anthony Head presents this fascinating BBC Radio 2 behind-the-scenes look at how the new series transpired. Featuring new and exclusive interviews with the cast and creative team, the programme explores how the format of the show has been developed for a new audience, how the character of the Doctor was cast, and how his adventures will be launched and marketed around the globe. As an added bonus, this CD version also contains an additional 30 minutes of material not included in the BBC Radio 2 broadcast.

Doctor Who: The Crusade
William Hartnell stars as the Doctor in this classic BBC TV adventure soundtrack, only one episode of which survives in the BBC film library. William Russell, who plays Ian, provides additional linking narration and this CD release also features his recollections of recording the original television serial. The story begins when the TARDIS materialises in 12th Century Palestine where King Richard the Lionheart is waging war against the Saracen ruler, Saladin. As the Doctor, Susan, Ian and Barbara explore their surroundings, they become caught up in a Saracen ambush; Barbara is kidnapped while her friends are welcomed at King Richard's palace in Jaffa. Intrigue and espionage ensue, as the travellers once more become involved in history. Also stars Jacqueline Hill as Barbara, and Carole Ann Ford as Susan.

Eyewitness: The 1970s
The Seventies began with a spectacular obscenity trial and ended with Margaret Thatcher quoting St Francis of Assisi on the steps of Downing Street. The social revolution of the 60s settled into a variety of movements: feminist, gay, anarchist, punk. However, economic misery, burgeoning union power and carnage in Northern Ireland characterised the decade. The miners' strike and the three-day week toppled the Conservative Government in 1974, and the 'Winter of Discontent' defeated Labour in 1979. The horrors in Northern Ireland were unremitting. But the Queen's Silver Jubilee and Virginia Wade's Wimbledon win provided moments of optimism. Politicians including Margaret Thatcher, Harold Wilson and Edward Heath illustrate the mood of the decade, as do journalists and social commentators.
