Death in the
Clouds
John Moffatt plays the great Belgian detective Hercule Poirot
in this full-cast BBC Radio 4 dramatisation now on CD. Poirot
falls asleep on the plane from Le Bourget to Croyden after taking
a sedative to calm his nerves. He's awakened when the woman behind
him is found dead. A doctor on board thinks a wasp-sting was to
blame, but Poirot suspects that a poisoned dart is the real cause
– and a blow pipe is discovered stuffed down the back of
his own seat. Clearly the murderer must be one of the passengers
or crew and even Poirot is under suspicion. He must unravel the
baffling mystery - if only to clear his own name.

| Alan Bennett
Kafka's Dick
This BBC Radio 4 version of Alan Bennett's brilliantly clever,
fast-moving comedy drama explores life and art but also asks the
more fundamental question: what exactly was Kafka's embarrassing
little problem? The story begins when Kafka aficionado Sydney,
and his wife Linda, find their lives taking a rather surreal turn
- their tortoise metamorphoses into Kafka himself! Soon it becomes
clear that the great writer wanted nothing more than anonymity
and to get his own back on his bullying father. But soon Kafka's
father joins them and demands to make peace with his son, otherwise
he will reveal Kafka's secret. Starring Richard Griffiths, Alison
Steadman and Peter Woodthorpe.

Raymond Chandler
The Little Sister
Ed Bishop stars as Philip Marlowe in this atmospheric BBC Radio
4 dramatisation of Raymond Chandler's novel about the cynical,
world-weary, wise-cracking shamus whose honesty in a dishonest
world sent him down the mean streets again and again in search
of justice. In this story, Marlowe agrees to take on the case
of a missing brother from a small Kansas town. It doesn't look
like Marlowe's best shot at the big time, but pretty soon it turns
out that this particular brother had the embarrassing habit of
knowing guys who finished up on the wrong end of an ice-pick.
Until, that is, he did too.
