Development and first-look deals are a growth area. BBC Worldwide now has agreements in place with Ecosse, Tiger Aspect, Box TV, Clerkenwell and Touchpaper Productions.
Television formats
BBC Worldwide remains a market leader in the production and licensing of TV formats – the creation of local versions of UK programmes. Its biggest format success this year was BBC Entertainment’s hit show Strictly Come Dancing, currently under licence to 14 territories.
Other successful continuing formats include Great Britons, The Weakest Link, Friends Like These and Antiques Roadshow. The US version of Antiques Roadshow remains the top-rated show on PBS after some nine years. BBC Worldwide is currently developing a catalogue of scripted formats with licences of Cutting It in Germany and Keeping Up Appearances in South Africa. BBC Worldwide is also working with US producers on a number of new developments. |
