Internet, Broadband and Mobile
Broadband
BBC Worldwide continued to develop its broadband strategy. This includes a relationship with leading broadband company RealNetworks, and a partnership with ABC News in the USA. In January 2005 BBC Worldwide and AkimboTM Systems announced an arrangement to provide BBC programming to Akimbo subscribers for download.

BBC Worldwide’s internet service provider, managed in partnership with THUS plc, maintained its successful narrowband performance and launched a broadband service.
Web syndication
BBC Worldwide develops television support websites for overseas broadcasters, often as part of their television-rights sales package. Titles this year included Auschwitz, Colosseum, Doctor Who and Planet Earth. |

Mobile
BBC Worldwide has developed a number of services for mobile platforms, focusing in particular on exploiting BBC audiovisual content via 3G platforms.
The Internet, Broadband and Mobile business unit is forecast to move into profit in 2005/06.
BBC Music (Music & Radio)
Music licensing
Having moved from being a record company, managing production and distribution, BBC Music focused on licensing music rights during 2004/05. The business strategy is to exploit the wide range of music TV and radio content in partnership with principal rights holders such as the major record labels.
Successes this year included the number-one compilation album I Love Mum. This was released with Virgin/EMI for Mother’s Day. Soundtrack successes included Blackpool, Strictly Come Dancing and The Long Firm. |
