Introduction
A portfolio of 19 wholly owned and joint-venture television
channels, available in 324m homes around the world, makes
BBC Worldwide Britain’s leading player in the global TV
broadcast industry.
Commercial broadcasting is one of the core businesses at the
heart of BBC Worldwide’s strategy. The channels showcase
BBC and other British content and talent around the world.
In developing content and schedules, the company works
closely with the BBC’s Director of Television and her team.
BBC Worldwide enjoys an income stream from the sale of
programmes to each channel and a share in the asset growth
and profit streams via dividends as each one moves into profit.
BBC Worldwide has developed a range of jointly owned
channels with blue-chip partners such as Discovery
Communications Inc (DCI), Flextech Television, Alliance
Atlantis Communications Inc, Foxtel and FremantleMedia
in Australia. It also has a number of wholly owned channels
– BBC Prime, BBC Food, BBC America and, most recently,
BBC Japan – as well as managing the distribution of BBC
One, BBC Two and the BBC’s digital channels in Belgium,
the Netherlands and Ireland. |
