BBC Music draws on the best of the BBC’s radio and TV music programmes to offer one of the world’s most eclectic music outputs. The range includes global properties such as Top of the Pops, classical performances, children’s music and award-winning soundtracks. A creative approach to properties such as The Blue Planet and children’s characters such as the Tweenies and Bob The Builder have resulted in substantial record sales around the world.

Top of the Pops is currently seen in 110 territories. In January 2003, a version for the Middle East was launched on MBC. A French edition, filmed at studios in Paris, has launched on France 2, joining the successful internationally-made shows in Germany, Holland, Belgium and Italy.
In classical music BBC Worldwide and Dutch company Opus Arte’s successful two-year-old partnership resulted in 25 new classical music productions and 26 DVDs by the end of the year.
The Queen’s Golden Jubilee Concerts – Party at the Palace and Prom at the Palace – were released as two BBC/Opus Arte DVDs with combined sales of 160,000 units. In Japan a three-year agreement was signed with NHK to produce classical music programmes in High Definition format.
