New foreign language products, such as Quickstart for adult travellers, achieved very strong retail sales. Further growth is expected through a new partnership with Cambridge University, developing a new generation of multiple-media language learning courses for launch in 2003/04.

English Language Teaching achieved particularly good results in Asia-Pacific, where award-winning Goal won major publishing deals in Japan and Korea.

The TV thriller Search, Pop Goes English (a joint venture with 19 Entertainment) and World News English also launched successfully. In China, BBC Worldwide, BBC World Service and Sina.com launched a mobile technology service which offers English learning prompted by text messages.
