It was a record-breaking year for BBC Worldwide’s consumer publishing products. BBC Worldwide’s video and DVD titles achieved phenomenal sales; BBC Books became the UK’s biggest hardback non-fiction publisher; and BBC Audiobooks won eighteen Spoken Word Awards, including Publisher of the Year. In total, some 22 million books, videos, DVDs and audio products were sold.

BBC Worldwide is one of the UK’s leading distributors of video and non-film DVDs. With 31% global growth, it had a remarkable year. Runaway success, confounding even the most optimistic forecasts, was The Office on video and DVD. More than one million units were sold, making it the UK’s best-selling video/DVD TV title ever.
The company’s long-standing commitment to DVD is now paying off as DVD penetration reaches 23% of the UK population*, a trend dramatically illustrated by The Office where the ratio of DVD to video sales was 70:30 in favour of DVD. BBC titles on DVD have also enjoyed excellent sales in Europe, the USA and Australia. Across Asia and the Pacific, BBC consumer publishing sales grew by 38%.
Now the UK's biggest hardback non-fiction publisher both by value and by volume, BBC Books became market leaders in gardening and history titles as well as in both food and drink, and TV tie-in, titles.
