Commitment to Fair Trading
Since the launch of Radio Times in 1923, the BBC’s commercial activities have played an important part in the funding of its public services. BBC Worldwide was formed to develop a co-ordinated approach to the BBC’s commercial activities, maximise the value of the BBC’s assets and re-invest in public service programming. In performing its commercial role, BBC Worldwide conforms to domestic and European Competition Law. In addition, and unlike its competitors, BBC Worldwide is subject to further requirements to trade fairly, under the BBC’s Royal Charter
Commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility
BBC Worldwide seeks out complementarity between its work and its social responsibilities at home and abroad. The company’s ethical sourcing policy includes overseas factory inspections for health and safety and other working conditions. Local schools give feedback on BBC Children’s magazines, and as part of World Book Day, the Teletubbies joined a campaign to show young children that books can be fun.
