Industry Awards

One of the most important measures of success, to every individual as well as to the organisation as a whole, is recognition of achievement.

This year we have broken all previous records and surpassed our own targets by winning an astounding 84 awards, up from 79 in the previous year.

Most recently, we have won the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2002, which judged our success as among the best of the UK’s companies. The Award recognises the tremendous work of our sales and marketing teams around the world and is a tribute to everyone involved in promoting BBC brands and properties.

A full list of our awards is available on BBC Worldwide’s website www.bbcworldwide.com but the following examples illustrate the range and breadth of our achievement:

• A total of 15 awards at the Spoken Word Awards 2001

• Audiocall won the Connections Award for best use of telemarketing

• Two Nibbies presented for Alan Bennett’s The Laying on of Hands and The Blue Planet

• Two awards for BBC Music at the Ivor Novello Awards

• Runaway success for The Weakest Link with the Broadcast Award 2002 for most successful international programme

• A host of awards for BBC Magazines, including Best Designed Feature and Magazine Sales Team of the Year

• The Entertainment Award 2001 for BBC World’s coverage in Pakistan

• Success for Multimedia with the IVCA award for Tweenies: Play to the Music

Employee Awards

Our FAB (For a Better) World awards, set up to recognise exceptional contributions by staff across the company, have been a tremendous success since they were introduced in 1998. Six of the eight awards are voted on by the BBC Worldwide Board and the seventh, the People’s Choice, is selected by staff. This year an eighth award was introduced – a new Green award – reflecting our commitment to environmental awareness.

FAB World aims to help make BBC Worldwide a great company to work for – one in which everybody feels motivated, valued, appreciated and capable of excellence. Our awards recognise outstanding contributions from individuals and teams.

Here are just a few of the FAB World award-winning teams from over the year:

• Home Video, New York and London – collaboration resulted in the best sales year ever for video and DVD teams on both sides of the Atlantic

• BBC Showcase 2002 – a triumph of logistics, content and presentation led to the best-ever Showcase event for customers and an award for the team responsible

• Radio Times – for the re-design of the UK’s best-selling listings magazine

• Iberian and Marketing teams – for working with department store El Corte Ingles to promote Tweenies toys in Spain

• International Television – secured global sales of The Weakest Link format

• Green magazines – one person’s passion, commitment and perseverance led to BBC Magazines publishing the first ever magazine made with Forest Stewardship Council-approved paper

These successes are a tribute to the creativity, energy and professionalism of all our staff.

We are also proud of our Investors in People accreditation, another reflection of our commitment to making BBC Worldwide a great place to work.
